1. About LexNZ

LexNZ (“we”, “us”, “the platform”) is an AI-assisted legal information service that helps New Zealanders understand New Zealand legislation. We are not a law firm. Our service provides general legal information sourced from publicly available New Zealand legislation and does not constitute legal advice.

2. Not legal advice

The information provided by LexNZ is for general informational purposes only. It is not legal advice and must not be relied upon as such. Legal outcomes depend on specific facts and circumstances that our platform cannot fully assess. For advice tailored to your situation, you must consult a qualified New Zealand lawyer or other licensed legal professional.

LexNZ is not a “legal service” as defined in the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006.

3. Accuracy and currency

We strive to keep our legislation database current. However, New Zealand law changes frequently. LexNZ does not warrant that any information provided is complete, accurate, or up to date at the time you access it. Always verify legislation directly at legislation.govt.nz for authoritative text.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use LexNZ to:

• Engage in or facilitate fraud, misrepresentation, or unlawful activity
• Create false legal instruments or misleading documents
• Circumvent quota or rate limits through automated or fraudulent means
• Scrape, reproduce, or redistribute platform content at scale without written permission
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, disrupt, or compromise platform security
• Provide false information to obtain a higher service tier

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.

5. Intellectual property

Your queries: You retain ownership of questions and documents you submit.

LexNZ output: AI-generated responses are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not republish, resell, or distribute responses without written permission.

Legislation excerpts: New Zealand legislation reproduced on this platform is Crown copyright and reproduced in accordance with the Parliamentary Counsel Office open access policy. See legislation.govt.nz/about/copyright.

Platform: All other platform content, design, and software is owned by LexNZ Limited and protected by copyright.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, LexNZ excludes all liability for any loss or damage (including consequential loss) arising from use of or reliance on information provided by the platform. This includes loss arising from inaccurate legal information, missed legal deadlines, or decisions made based on platform output.

Where liability cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986, our liability is limited to re-performance of the service.

7. Free and paid tiers

LexNZ offers a free tier with limited daily queries and a premium tier with higher limits. Tier limits are subject to change with notice. Premium subscriptions are billed in advance and non-refundable except as required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

8. Privacy

Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms of Service.

9. Service availability

We do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify or discontinue the service at any time with reasonable notice. We will not be liable for any downtime or service changes.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. We will give at least 14 days’ notice of material changes via the platform. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
